RE: Jordan M. RiversName
DOB: 04/12/1978DOB
MRN: 0847291MRN

Dear Colleague,

I had the pleasure of evaluating Mr. RiversName in clinic today regarding worsening right-hand symptoms. The patient reports six months of progressive numbness in the median nerve distribution, worse at night and with repetitive activity. Physical exam demonstrated a positive Tinel sign over the carpal tunnel and a positive Phalen test within 15 seconds.

An EMG from 03/15/2026 confirmed severe median neuropathy at the wrist. Given the severity of symptoms and the electrodiagnostic findings, I recommended endoscopic carpal tunnel release. The patient was counseled on risks and benefits and would like to proceed with surgery at his earliest convenience.

Please contact my office at (925) 555‑0142Phone with any questions or scheduling concerns.

Sincerely,

A. Morrison, MD
Department of Surgery

01 What ZapRedact can hide

It finds what matters,
and leaves what doesn't.

i.

Social Security Numbers

XXX‑XX‑XXXX, split, hyphenless, or buried in prose. ZapRedact finds all of them.

ii.

Medical Records

Patient names, MRNs, diagnoses, DOBs, provider IDs. Configurable per workflow.

iii.

Banking & Tax Documents

Account numbers, routing, W‑2 boxes, 1099s. Safe for your accountant.

iv.

Addresses & Phone Numbers

US formats, international, embedded in signature blocks, apartment suffixes.

v.

Credit Cards

Visa, MC, Amex, Discover. Card number, CVV, exp date. All detected, never stored.

vi.

Your Own Rules

Client names, project codes, internal IDs. Add your own patterns and save them per workflow.

02 How it works

Three steps.
Nothing leaves your machine.

  1. 1

    Open any document

PDF, Word, Excel, Google Docs, a webmail thread, a web page, even a screenshot. Open it like you always would.

  2. 2

    Click the ZapRedact bolt

The extension scans the page locally. In under a second, every sensitive string is marked with a red underline. You can toggle each one.

  3. 3

    Export the redacted version

Save as a new PDF, copy the sanitized text, or get a redacted screenshot. The original is never touched, and nothing is uploaded.

A privacy tool
that is actually
private.

ZapRedact runs entirely inside your browser. The detection model, the text extraction, the redaction itself: all of it happens on your machine. We have no server that sees your documents. We couldn’t build a backdoor if we wanted to.

The only thing that touches our servers is your license check: your email, your plan, and a count of how many pages you’ve redacted this month. The documents themselves never leave your computer. We literally do not have them.

Two-panel illustration: on the left, a laptop with a redacted document on screen surrounded by a warm glow, labeled LOCAL. On the right, a cloud icon crossed out by a red slash, labeled NO CLOUD. Message: ZapRedact runs on your device, never uploads to the cloud.

04 Questions

Everything
you should ask
a privacy tool.

Does ZapRedact upload my documents?
No. Every byte of processing happens inside your browser. No server of ours ever sees the content of your files. You can verify this yourself with Chrome’s network inspector. There are no outgoing requests during redaction.
Is ZapRedact HIPAA-compliant?
Because your data never leaves your computer, ZapRedact itself is not a "covered entity" under HIPAA. That said, we publish a deployment guide for clinics that covers Chrome policy, local backups, and audit practice. On the Team plan that guide is first–class.
What happens if the detection misses something?
You can click any word on the page to manually redact it, and save that pattern as a custom rule so it catches the same thing next time. ZapRedact gets smarter on your specific workflows over time. And all of that learning stays local.
Can I redact a PDF that I received by email?
Yes. Open the PDF in Chrome (or upload it into the extension’s drop zone), click the bolt, review, and export. The exported PDF has the text permanently removed, not just visually covered.
Who builds this?
ZapRedact is built by a small team that handles sensitive documents every day and got tired of the alternatives. Email hello@zapredact.com with questions, and a human reads them.
